A measure to modify the 1999 Constitution and establish a new state in the South-South area called Ogoja State has been approved by the Nigerian House of Representatives for second reading. The bill aims to separate the new state from the current Cross River State and is sponsored by Hon. Godwin Offiono and three other lawmakers.
The law was adopted during a session on Thursday after Speaker Tajudeen Abbas led a voice vote. The constitutional review committee will now review and consider the idea further.
