Burkina Faso’s prime minister, Apollinaire Kyelem de Tambela, stated that his country is looking for ways to expand its collaboration with Russia across all fronts and hopes to forge a strategic alliance.

“When we turned to Russia, we were told that Russia could deliver nothing except armaments. Not a thing more. We made the decision to investigate. We are thus searching for chances to broaden our relationships across the board. Speaking at the Burkina Faso Economic Days meeting in Moscow, he stated, “We want to establish a military, economic, and cultural strategic partnership.”

He noted that even after Ouagadougou gained independence, he was not happy with collaboration with the West. Previously, the country had been a French colony.

“We have not been satisfied with our past interactions with the French or the West in general. We therefore made the decision to try a different course. We convinced ourselves that Russia is the partner we should look to right now,” he remarked.
