The former governor of Anambra state stated in a statement released on Friday through his X Twitter that Nigerians were still awaiting a thorough explanation of how the Renewed Hope budget, which was approved in December 2023, was implemented and spent.
Obi also urged the National Assembly to take use of this chance to acquire and release the complete budget for 2024.
“I read yesterday that the Budget of Restoration has been increased to N54 trillion due to increased revenue,” he remarked.
Although the revenue’s sources were described in depth, the growth is not supported by a breakdown of expenses. For the sake of accountability and transparency, Nigerians must be aware of how the resources they produce are being distributed in order to make sure that they are wisely used for the advancement of the nation and the welfare of its citizens.
Such investments ought to be focused on four important areas of development: poverty reduction, healthcare, education, and security.
To make sure that the Renewed Hope budget, which was approved in December 2023, has been appropriately used for the nation’s future growth and the welfare of its people, Nigerians are still awaiting a thorough report on its implementation and spending.
“I urge the National Assembly to take advantage of this chance to acquire and disseminate the whole information of the Renewed Hope budget for 2024.
In order to ensure accountability, learn from previous budgets, and make well-informed decisions for the advancement of the country, transparency in this area is essential.
“As we strive to approve the 2025 Budget of Restoration, let’s maintain transparency, responsibility, and the well-being of the Nigerian people. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and the future of our great nation. -PO”
