Senator Gabriel Suswam, a former Benue State Governor, has advocated for the removal of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, due to poor performance.
He made the statement during the PDP’s extended caucus meeting in Makurdi.
Suswam stated that Damagum has converted the party into a business operation and that he is unqualified to remain in the party’s leadership.
His words were: “Damagum must go whether they like it or not.”
Suswam bemoaned that the national leadership under Damagum is intent on destroying the party, and he pledged not to let that happen.
He accused the national party leadership of conspiring with other negative elements to destabilize the party.
Suswam revealed that some party officials conspired to convene kangaroo local and state congresses in Benue State.
He pondered how there could be no wards or local government congresses while delegates were picked to conduct the state congress, which he described as a farce and declared would not stand.
Sen. Suswam stated that they are not short on ideas, adding that if their current techniques fail, they will look for a better and stronger option.
Mr Christian Adaba Abah, the PDP’s Benue State Chairman, thanked the party’s supporters for their unwavering support and asked them to keep faith in the party, assuring them that they would not be disappointed.
Other speakers at the event, including Udu Nyitse for Benue North East, Cletus Upaa for Benue North West, John Ngbede for Benue South, and Hyacinth Inyakuma for former House of Assembly members, assured their groups of loyalty to the PDP and expressed confidence that the party would strengthen and reclaim its mandate in 2027.
