Nigeria has congratulated Duma Boko, Botswana’s president-elect, on his historic election win.
In a letter released on Friday, Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe, the spokesperson for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, revealed.
This occurs as Mokgweetsi Masisi, the president of the Botswana Democratic group, who has dominated the nation for more than thirty years, is overthrown by Boko’s opposition group, the Umbrella for Democratic Change, or UDC.
Nigeria says it shares the hopes and aspirations of the people of Botswana in response to Boko’s victory.
“After his party, the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDP), won the recently held general elections in Gaborone, the Federal Republic of Nigeria would like to congratulate Lawyer Duma Boko, the president-elect of the Republic of Botswana.
Nigeria also wants to praise the departed President’s strength,
His Excellency Mokgweetsi Masisi, in accepting the outcome and laying out the nation’s future.
“Nigeria shares the hopes and aspirations of the brotherly government and people of Botswana as they embark on the next chapter of their nationhood, as Botswana continues to be an important ally and partner.”
Masisi, the outgoing president, had earlier acknowledged that Boko had won the presidential election.
