In light of growing operating expenses and the necessity to maintain the sector, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has authorized a 50% rate adjustment for telecom operators.
According to a statement released on Monday, the clearance is much less than the more than 100% increase that certain network providers had asked for.
The NCC claims that the change is in line with its authority to control and authorize tariff rates under Section 108 of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003.
The revised tariffs will be applied in accordance with the NCC’s 2024 Guidance on Tariff Simplification and will stay within the 2013 tariff bands.
The NCC emphasized that safeguarding customers is still a top concern in spite of the rise.
