On Monday, October 7, 2024, two boats crashed in the lagoon in Imore town, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, Lagos State, resulting in a catastrophic boat accident that left 21 passengers missing.
According to Mr. Benjamin Hundeyin, a spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, “the accident was reported to the Ilashe Police Division around 7 pm.”Eleven injured passengers were rescued by emergency personnel, including marine police and local divers, and sent to the Naval Hospital in Navy Town, Alakija, for medical attention.

A distress call was received on October 7, 2024, stating that two unregistered passenger boats, each carrying sixteen people, had collided in the lagoon near Imore town. According to Mr. Hundeyin, “both boats capsized, submerging the passengers and their belongings.”
He also said that an investigation into the cause of the incident has been started, and attempts are still underway to retrieve the other passengers.
