Authorities revealed on Sunday that 24-year-old South Korean actress Kim Sae-ron had been discovered dead at her apartment in Seongsu-dong.
Police say that at around 4:55 PM (07:55 GMT), a friend found her body. No evidence of foul play was discovered, according to investigators, and the cause of death is still being officially investigated.
Kim was considered one of South Korea’s most promising young stars, having begun acting as a toddler. Her performance in A Brand New Life (2009), which had its Cannes Film Festival premiere, brought her recognition on a global scale.
She went on to star in a number of popular movies, such as The Neighbour (2012), for which she won an award, and The Man from Nowhere (2010), which was South Korea’s highest-grossing movie that year.
A Girl at My Door (2014) and Mirror of the Witch (2016) are two of her other well-known films.
Following a drunk driving incident in 2022, for which she was fined 20 million won (£11,000) in April 2023, Kim mainly retired from public life.
Although the majority of her scenes were apparently cut out because of the issue, her final role was in the Korean drama Bloodhounds, which aired on Netflix in 2023.
