Yobe State Hisbah Board agents have seized and destroyed more than 170 bottles of various alcoholic beverages valued at about N400,000.

According to information obtained, the bottles were seized from a hotel in Gashu’a town, which serves as the state’s Bade Local Government Area headquarters.

The bottles were seized during a Hisbah patrol at one of the renowned hotels in Gashu’a, according to Ibrahim Babagana Yurema, the Chairman of Bade LGA, who spearheaded the destruction.

He stated that the council is worried about the rate at which young people in the area are consuming alcohol and other drugs.

He warned that alcohol and other drugs that impair one’s mental faculties are prohibited in Islam and emphasised that the council will keep up its efforts to combat this sinful practice.

He issued a warning: “The Council would flush out alcohol sellers, traders, and consumers in the area.”

According to Malam Isah Ibrahim, the Yobe North Zonal Commandant of the Hisbah Board, the state’s Sharia Court judged the alcohol vendor guilty and sentenced him to a jail facility.

The court also mandated that Hisbah destroy the materials that were seized.
