Governor Hycienth Alia of Benue State has authorized a *₦75,000 minimum wage* for state employees, which will take effect *November 2024*. After a meeting with organized labor groups, the State Secretariat issued this announcement on Monday.
Additionally, the governor affirmed that the state government would fulfill its commitment to the union in the 2024 budget to pay *three months of the five-month backlog of arrears*.
In recognition of the significance of attending to workers’ concerns throughout the discussions, Governor Alia stated, “We have decided to set the wage at ₦75,000, exceeding the national minimum wage of ₦70,000 due to concerns raised by organized labor.”
Dedicated to the Welfare of Workers
Citing the government’s initiatives to address issues including transportation allowances, tax relief, and other benefits, the governor underlined his administration’s dedication to enhancing the welfare of state employees. He is motivated to pay off the arrears in order to ease the financial strain on the personnel.
Governor Alia reiterated that his administration is committed to making sure Benue State workers receive the attention they need.
