Babagana Zulum, the governor of Borno State, has expressed dismay over the state’s citizens who are unaffected by the floods converging to camps for internally displaced people (IDPs).
According to Governor Babagana Zulum, the influx of numerous unaffected individuals into the afflicted areas has made managing the IDP camps challenging.
Zulum revealed this on Monday when he officially inaugurated the distribution of relief items from the federal government and the Nigeria Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to victims of floods at Bakassi Camp, along Damboa Road, in Maiduguri.
An estimated 1 million people were impacted by the flood event, which was attributed to government carelessness regarding the Alau Dam, which required parts to be repaired.
“We have observed that the situation has become unsustainable due to the influx of non-affected individuals into the camps,” Governor Zulum stated. In these circumstances, it is difficult to run the camps effectively.
On the other hand, the governor of Borno State revealed that his administration would start a thorough evaluation of the towns impacted by the flooding catastrophe.
According to him, the evaluation will assist the government in figuring out how many people are impacted by the flooding.
“We’ve gathered resources to make sure everyone impacted gets the supplies they need for relief. To precisely ascertain the number of individuals harmed, we will also evaluate the afflicted neighborhoods, Zulum continued.
