Along with her supporters, Kemi Elebute-Halle, a former Action Democratic Party (ADP) candidate for governor of Ekiti State, formally defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday. Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the APC, welcomed them at the party’s secretariat in Abuja, where the changeover took place.
Elebute-Halle, who was also the ADP’s Deputy National Chairman, told reporters during the reception that she made her choice in large part because of the ongoing reforms implemented under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. “I am confident that these reforms will ultimately boost the nation’s pride,” she said.
Ekiti Governor Biodun Oyebanji was commended by Elebute-Halle for convincing her to join the APC. In order to support Mr. President and his Renewed Hope Agenda as a progressive partner, we are joining the APC. We think the government’s existing measures will work,” she said.
She disclosed that more than 7,000 people defected from several political parties, including the ADP, APP, AD, SDP, LP, PPA, and PDP, following a large gathering on October 7, suggesting a wide coalition of support.
Ganduje responded to Elebute-Halle’s defection by praising her and her followers for their brave choice and expressing faith in their support of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He pledged their full participation in all APC operations and guaranteed them equal opportunity within the party.
