The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, as a public holiday to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid, the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo Minister of Interior.

The government congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and world wide, urging them to reflect on the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion.

According to the statement, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo emphasised that these values are crucial to building a united and progressive nation.

The statement quoted Dr Tunji-Ojo as saying, “The celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid offers us yet another opportunity to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, and imbibe the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity.”

“The Minister of Interior wishes Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration,” the statement read.

Eid-ul-Mawlid is the commemoration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) observed in the third month of the Islamic calendar.
