The Nigeria Police Force, or NPF, has detained some 130 foreign nationals on suspicion of serious cybercrimes, hacking, and actions that compromise national security.

The 26 female and 87 male foreign nationals, who are primarily Chinese and Malaysian, were taken into custody in the Jahi neighbourhood of Abuja.

Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force spokesperson, said in a statement on Sunday that 17 other people detained were recognised as Nigerians.

This coordinated raid on a building in the Next Cash and Carry neighbourhood of Jahi, Abuja, where the suspects were allegedly employing laptops and other advanced technology to facilitate illicit activities, is part of the statement.

On Saturday, November 3, 2024, officers from the Nigeria Police Force Zone 7 Command Abuja and the National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC) participated in the operation, which was directed by AIG Benneth Igweh, Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja.

“We are looking into the situation and evaluating the exhibits that were taken from them scientifically. The suspects will face charges in court after our investigations are complete.
