Baltasar Ebang Engonga, the director general of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), was fired by the government.
Following the discovery of over 400 tapes containing graphic material of his encounters with prominent ladies in Equatorial Guinea during an investigation, Engonga was fired.
According to Real Equatorial Guinea, after the private films were made public, President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo ordered his termination.
According to the publication, Engonga was fired for alleged misconduct in office as well as social and familial behaviors that were judged inappropriate for public office, citing Decree No. 118/2024, dated November 4.
After tapes of Engonga’s private interactions with certain high-profile women and his cousins were posted online, his ordeal started.
On social media, the leaked videos have not stopped causing controversy.
Constancia Mangue Obiang, the First Lady of Equatorial Guinea, has joined the chorus of people who have denounced Engonga.
In a meeting with Prime Minister Manuel Osa Nsue, the president’s wife voiced her outrage about the issue.
In order to preserve Equatoguinean women’s dignity and safeguard their privacy in the digital era, Mrs. Obiang demanded that the government act right away.
The First Lady’s Press Office emphasized in a Facebook statement that although the government has made progress on gender equality, proactive steps are necessary to provide a secure and respectful environment for all women, both to avoid and respond to situations like these.
