Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) nominee for Edo State’s governorship on September 21, filed a lawsuit against Senator Adams Oshiomhole over remarks he made on the Planwell scheme.

Ighodalo sued the former governor for N20 billion, criticizing him.

The governorship candidate further demanded an urgent apology and retraction for the malicious, false, and defamatory remarks that should have appeared in three (3) nationally distributed newspapers and at least two (2) national television networks, through his legal representation, Ayo Asala (SAN) & Associates.

He described Oshiomhole’s accusations as just another of the senator’s recent defamatory fabrications and comments, noting that they were malicious, unjustified, and untrue. The senator represents the Edo North Senatorial District.

He contends that the story’s fabrication is a product of Oshiomhole’s imagination, meant to harm his reputation and good character to further the political goals of Oshiomhole’s party and its candidate in the upcoming Edo State governor’s race.

“We are counsel to Dr. Asue Ighodalo, who is the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the forthcoming Edo State Governorship election,” said Ighodalo’s attorneys in a letter dated September 16, 2024, sent to Oshiomhole.

It has come to our attention that during a Saturday, September 14, 2024, party campaign rally, you stated that our client, Dr. Ighodalo, was involved in or connected to the alleged pyramid scheme called “PLANWELL,” which defrauded many Nigerians of their hard-earned money.

“This is a false and unsubstantiated assertion that you made, and it was widely shared on social media and carried live on television.

“It is disheartening to observe that despite your position as an elder and public official, you seem to have established a practice of making false claims in public only to further your political agenda.”
