After six years, former senator from Kogi West Dino Melaye said on Monday that justice had been done in his case against the Nigerian government.

Melaye said that the court had cleared him of all 12 charges brought by the Nigerian government against him.

Melaye posted on X, saying, “Justice served after six years.” Justice that is postponed is never denied. Praise be to God alone. Sen. Dino Melaye 12 cases—the Federal Government and IGP 0—were all won by divine intervention. Ricky Tafa and Prof. Mike Ozekhome I’m grateful. NEVER GIVE UP OR SURRENDER.

Melaye has been exonerated of two accusations of giving false information about a purported attack on his life in 2017, according to Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the Federal Capital High Court in Maitama.

This judicial drama started in February 2018 when Melaye was accused of fabricating evidence linking Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello’s then-chief of staff, Edward Onoja, to the purported assassination plan.

Delays in the first instance of the purported assassination attempt included the death of the judge supervising the case, Justice Aromeh Benson Akogu, on December 31, 2017, during a cross-over service.

The Office of the Attorney General publicly accused Melaye on January 31, 2018, alleging his charges were false, following from an inquiry into the purported murder attempt at his hometown in Ayetoro-Gbede, Kogi State.

On March 1, 2018, he entered a not guilty plea.

Once more, Melaye claimed that the Kogi State Police Command was trying to murder him in July 2018.

In reaction to allegations that his security detail had fired shots at police officers carrying out “stop and search” operations in Mopa, he leveled this accusation.

Melaye claimed once more in March 2019 that the Kogi State administration was plotting to kill him; the state denied this.
