A Federal High Court in Abuja has directed Nnamdi Kanu to formally serve the Federal Government and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) with his motion seeking a transfer from Sokoto Prison to a facility closer to the court. Justice James Omotosho refused to grant the application ex parte, stressing that both the government and the NCoS must be given the opportunity to respond before any order can be made.

During the hearing, the judge questioned why Kanu’s request especially one seeking to “compel” the authorities was brought without notifying the opposing parties. Kanu’s lawyer agreed that the respondents should be heard. The court struck out one of Kanu’s prayers and noted that his earlier notice of appeal was invalid, as it was filed before his conviction. The matter was adjourned to January 27 for proper service and further hearing.
