In Zamfara State, Nigerian troops have intensified their attack on Bello Turji, a well-known bandit commander.
In a post on his X account on Sunday, Zagazola Makama, a counterterrorism and insurgency specialist in the Lake Chad Basin, said that his main hiding places in Fakai, Shinkafi Local Government Area, had been destroyed by the recent coordinated military operations.
According to Makama, the development follows a string of successful missions that destroyed many bandit camps in Zamfara State’s Sabon Birni Local Government Area.
According to the security expert, Zangon Dan Gwandi, Zangon Tsaika, Zangon Kagara, and a school that Turji allegedly uses to store weapons and supplies were among the camps that the military targeted.
He claimed that in order to stop the school from acting as a supply base for Turji’s network, the military set it on fire. Zagazola Makama was informed by intelligence sources that Turji’s group had sustained severe losses. During the operation, we killed his son and a number of his fighters.
Additionally, I heard Turji’s terrified voice requesting seven more bandit leaders to provide reinforcements. According to the sources, none of them arrived, and one of his spies barely escaped us today.
The targeted strikes eliminated a significant number of Turji’s allies, including prominent lieutenants and perhaps even family members.
According to Makama, “others have retreated to Mangwarorin Gebe, allegedly hiding stolen livestock and valuables, while four of Turji’s fighters were injured in previous encounters.”
