According to former Arsenal captain Thierry Henry, Rodri of Manchester City ought to take home the 2024 Ballon d’Or instead of Vinicius Junior, a winger for Real Madrid.
After witnessing Vinicius score a hat-trick in the 5-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund, Henry was interviewed on CBS Sports on Tuesday night.
Henry stated that he would rather see a midfielder win the Ballon d’Or when asked by broadcaster Kate Abdo.
“Rodri, because I wanted the Xavi and [Andres] Iniesta to be the heart of Man City,” he said. “When they were playing, people forgot about the midfielders and what they do, and they’re the heart of the team.” He won the Euros, but I am aware that they did not win the Champions League.
The Copa America did not feature a performance by Vinicius Jr.
But is he a deserving victor? Indeed. He is exceptional. I keep reiterating that he deserves it because, in my opinion, he is currently the finest forward in the world.
