Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, the chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), has cautioned locals against disposing of trash in their drainage systems.

During an inspection of ongoing and completed road improvements in the wards of Nyanya, Karu, and Kabusa, Maikalangu issued the warning, pointing out that in certain places, garbage dumps are already obstructing the recently finished drainage system.

He added that the government could no longer put up with such behavior and that the area council would soon begin arresting those participating in such acts.

“Some residents don’t listen,” he said. Both humans and cars are supposed to use this road. Why should people use drainage systems to dispose of their waste?

As you can see, the entire drainage system has been clogged. It’s unfair. We’ve been saying this for a while, and we’re going to start making arrests for it soon.”

Maikalangu also gave the area council’s works department instructions to demolish the Nyanya community’s medical facility so that AMAC could construct a state-of-the-art facility for the community.

He pointed out that the local medical institution has been closed for a while and that the buildings that house it are similarly outdated and in need of renovation.

“I didn’t like the buildings when I first arrived at that Nyanya community health center, which has been abandoned for several years.

To construct a state-of-the-art medical center for the community, I have instructed the works department to demolish it,” he stated.

He said he was happy with the ongoing and finished projects and that the contractors had done a great job on the road improvements.

The ongoing and finished projects in the wards I have seen have been really pleased. For the jobs, I can provide the contractors a 90 percent rating. The contractors have performed admirably, as you can see for yourself.

Among the projects the AMAC chairman examined were the 1.5 km asphalt road that was finished in Kugbo community, the 600-meter road that is currently being built with drainage in Angwan Hausawa, Nyanya community, and the 600-meter road that is currently being built with drainage in  FHA in Nyanya community, completed 800metres road and solar-powered borehole at Karu community, as well as Jikwoyi Phase 1, 2, 3 completed road projects with solar streetlights.

Among other things, he examined the completed LEA Primary School project at Wassa community, the 33kva rural electrification project at Cheta community, the 650-meter ongoing road project at Karshi, the completed road project at Arab Junction in Orozo community, and the 2.5km road project at Kpeyegyi phase 2.
