The proposal to establish 31 additional states in the nation was made by the House of Representatives Committee on Constitution Review on Thursday.
The Nigerian state will consist of 67 sub-national administrations if the idea is approved.
In the absence of Speaker Mr. Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu presided over Thursday’s plenary session and read a letter that included the proposal for new states.
Six additional states for North Central, four for the North East, five for the North West, five for the South East, four for the South-South, and seven for the South West were suggested by the Kalu-chaired group.
