Due to the ruling APC decision to file consensus candidates for the next LGs election, stakeholders in Nasarawa State’s Thirteen Local Government Areas are feeling isolated.
However, this action was cut short because the local government’s party chairmen were unable to effectively manage the political arrangements. As a result, the governor, who is the party’s leader, made a second decision and urged the party to nominate three candidates who had passed the nomination process.
According to information our reporter obtained, the issue had not changed even before the governor took office since the stakeholders in some local government districts that fielded more than three chairship candidates were unable to mediate a settlement.
As a result, stakeholders from Governor Abdullahi Sule’s own local government areas of Karu, Keffi, Nasarawa, and Akwanga are now uneasy due to the confusion this has caused.
A group from the Nasarawa Local Government Area has vowed to leave the ruling APC if their candidate is removed from the race, according to the findings.
The group supporting Faisal’s governorship ambition, known as Faisal Gida-Gida, recently spoke in the state capital of Lafia. They said that plans are in full swing and that if all of their schemes fail, their principal and former NPHDA boss will be forced to leave the APC for the opposition in order to run for governor of Nasarawa State in 2027.
Speaking to reporters, Mallam Abdullahi Abubakar said that a number of disagreements had been settled in the governor’s favor, stressing that ongoing disagreements would undermine his credibility in the State.
While all of this was going on, the stakeholders also rejected two previous members of the State Assembly who had wanted to be chosen for the position, as well as the recently retired Chairman of the Keffi Local Government Area, Hon. Mohammed Baba Shehu, who is running for reelection.
He declined to sign the agreement because it was discovered that the selection did not favor the immediate prior Chairman.
In the meantime, it is clear that the former chairman of Karu LGA, the Honorable James Thomas, was removed because of a zoning formula that was established in favor of Panda, a Karu development area.
