Babagana Umara Zulum, the governor of Borno State, has been recognized with the Forbes Magazine Best of Africa Leadership Excellence Award for 2024. Forbes is a multinational media organization with an emphasis on technology, entrepreneurship, business, investing, leadership, and lifestyle.
The “Best of Africa Leadership Excellence Award” from Forbes Magazine is given to executives that demonstrate honesty, creativity, and influence.
At Forbes House in New York, United States of America, on Friday, Mr. Steve Forbes, chairman of Integrated Whale Media Investments, the company that owns Forbes Magazine, gave the prize.
Due to the terrible flood that hit Maiduguri, Zulum was unable to attend in person. Instead, his Chief Adviser and Coordinator for Sustainable Development and Humanitarian Response, Dr. Mairo Mandara, spoke in Zulum’s place.
“I am deeply honored to accept this award,” Governor Zulum said in her thank you to the award organizers. We are pleased with our accomplishments and sure that we can use them to make an even bigger difference.
President Muhammadu Buhari awarded Zulum, along with many other honorees, the Nigerian national honor of Commander of the Order of the Niger, or CON, in 2022.
Prior to that, Zulum was awarded the Second-Order of National Honour (de Grand Officer Dans I~Ordre), which is Nigeria’s equivalent of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), by President Mohammed Bazoum of the Republic of Niger in 2021.
